(lively music) [Narrator] How did Alexander McGillivray's multicultural background help him navigate the American Revolution?

Born in 1750 to Sehoy, a member of the Creek Wind Clan, and Lachlan McGillivray, a Scottish trader, Alexander McGillivray was raised in two worlds.

After splitting time between both Creek and colonial society, he was uniquely equipped to benefit from the conflict while being involved in key negotiations.

A Loyalist like his father, McGillivray was the official negotiator for the Creek Nation, and during those negotiations, he received a commission as a colonel in the British Army.

He was also able to secure supplies for the Creeks, sent war parties to help the British troops, and established the British-Creek Alliance.

Throughout the revolution, McGillivray continued to negotiate for the Creek Nation, defend Pensacola against American troops, and work closely with the British superintendents.
