Illinois makes history by requiring public schools to teach Asian American history.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the Teaching Equitable Asian American History Act into law Friday, making Illinois the first state in the U.S. to require such instruction in public schools. The law, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2022, comes amid a rise in anti-Asian hate crimes during the coronavirus pandemic.
