♪ Wild Kratts ♪ - [Chris] In parts of Europe and Asia, amongst the grassy flatlands, lives a relative of a familiar little creature, this guy!

- [Martin] Hey, it's us, the Kratt brothers.

I'm Martin.

- I'm Chris.

And here in regular neighborhoods all over the world, like this one in North America, you can easily find that familiar little creature living as a pet.

- We're talking about the hamster.

Did you realize that hamsters actually live in the wild in some parts of the world?

Well, they do.

[Martin] For example, there are Syrian hamsters, dwarf hamsters, and European hamsters.

These European hamsters live in underground burrow systems and spend lots of their time foraging for berries, seeds, grains, and grasses.

- [Chris] About 87 years ago, people took some Syrian hamsters from the wild and kept them as pets.

The hamsters were friendly and easy to take care of.

So soon, hamsters became common, well-loved pets.

- But what is the creature power of this cute little creature?

Is it the little hand-like paws?

- That soft, soft fur?

- The sharp gnawing teeth, which I don't want to feel?

- Those cute little ears?

- [Martin] Or the round, black eyes?

- Those are all amazing features, but one incredible talent of the hamster is actually in his cheeks.

- It's the hamsters awesome ability to collect, gather, and store things in cheek pouches.

- Imagine if we could collect and gather like a cheeky little hamster.

- Imagine if we had hamster power.

- [Both] What if?

- [Chris] Wow, without these, there'd be no running like cheetahs, digging like aardvarks, or leaping like lemurs.

- That's why we have to be super careful with them.

Besides the small fact that they use Beryllium 25, a natural element that is really rare, these chips are irreplaceable.

- I'm not letting these babies out of my sight.

- Good.

It'll just take me a second to clean and calibrate them.

- The smoothest.

- Well, I could use a quick test on my overhaul.

- Great, hit it Jimmy!

- Turbo-rama!

(cheering) - [Martin] Blast off!

- [Aviva] Wait!

- [Chris] Whoa, what's going on?

(yelling) - No!

(cheering) - Yeah!

(yelling) - [Chris] This is fun!

- [Aviva] Whoa!

(grunting) - Watch this smooth turbo turn!

- (grunts) Stop this thing!

(depressing guitar music) - [Leoni] Huh?

- (groans) That was a disaster.

- The chips, where are they?

You were watching them, right?

- Yeah, I watched them fly right out the door!

- Jimmy!

- There, how'd you like that?

- [Both] Woo hoo!

- That was awesome!

- I know, pretty fun, huh?

- Yeah, should we do it again?

- [Aviva] No!

- Huh?

- Don't do it again!

Stop the Tortuga, head down!

We have to find those chips.

- [Martin] Chips?

What chips?

- [Jimmy] Potato chips, I hope.

- I can't find any!

- It's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

- Worse.

- Way worse.

- But we can't stop, we just can't!

- [Martin] Look what I found.

- A chip?

- No, this little guy, a European hamster!

- Oh, cool.

He looks like he's on a search and collect mission.

- [Aviva] Is he helping us?

- I wish.

Hamsters have incredible collecting powers.

Check it out.

He's collecting those peas and stuffing them in his cheeks.

- [Aviva] Whoa, easy cutie.

That's too many to eat at one time.

- He's not eating 'em, not yet anyway.

He's just storing them in his cheeks.

Little pockets in his cheeks that hold food, so he can carry it back to his den.

- [Aviva] Okay, he can't possibly fit any more.

(laughs) Silly hamster, that's impossible.

- Don't tell him that.

- [Aviva] I don't believe it.

- That's the power of the cheek pouch.

- I like it bro, and they don't call them hamsters for nothing.

The name comes from the German word hamstern, which means hoarder, someone who collects huge amounts of stuff.

- [Martin] (laughs) That's Cheeks all right!

- Guys, the chips, remember?

Back to the search.

- Ugh, if only we had the search and collect power of our little hamster buddy.

- I know, but we'll never have another creature power again if we don't find those chips.

Or if these guys find them first.

- Hey!

Well maybe we can learn from some of best collectors in the world.

Let's split up and follow some wild hamsters.

Time to get small.

- Great idea bro!

If you can't be them, join them.

(exciting guitar music) - I'll head back to the Tortuga and send a Wild Kratts kids alert to get help.

- [Aviva] Thanks Jimmy.

- Koki and I will be Team Hamstern and we'll head north.

- And we'll stick with Cheeks, Team Cheeks.

- Let's find those chips.

- [All] Miniaturize!

- Whoa, wait up Cheeks!

- Let's head that way, there's a hamster.

- Now if we can just find at least three of those lost MicroXT Power Chips, I can get one of these creature power suits to work.

- I know Cheeky Boy can find one, I just know it.

Wow, unbelievable, it's like there's always room for one more thing.

- Didn't your parents teach you not to stuff too much food in your mouth?

You could choke.

- Yeah, for a human it's dangerous to do that.

But those hamster cheek pouches are specially adapted to hold a lot.

- Ah!

(gasping) - A chip!

- [Aviva] Cheeks found one!

- Wait, no, don't eat it.

Cheeks, give us that chip!

- Please!

(grunting) - Let go of it.

(grunting) (yelling) - (gasps) No!

- Ah-hah, oh sorry buddy, but I gotta squeeze those chubby cheeks!

(yelling) - The chip, I've got the chip.

(groaning) - Yes, we did it!

We have a creature power suit emergency.

(electronic beeping) Anybody with information on hamster behavior, we can use your help.

- I know hamsters.

- [Nolan] We know hamsters.

- [Aidan] Ours likes to put its food all in one place.

- [Nolan] Sometimes even her toys too.

Silly hamster.

- Great, that helps.

I'll fill you in on what's going on.

- C'mon Koki, we gotta keep up!

She went down there.

- Well, I'm not going down there.

Who knows, she might have a chip in those cheeks.

- Hmm, nice entrance tunnel.

- Awesome!

- Wow, it looks like she already has a lot stored up for winter.

- Hey, you are a healthy eater.

Barley seeds, wheat.

Oh, alfalfa, hmm.

- [Koki] Martin, she's emptying her cheeks!

- [Martin] I need a little help here.

(grunting) - Ta-da!

- A chip, woo hoo!

- Team Hamstern to Team Cheeks, we have a chip.

- Way to go team Hamstern.

Oh, if we get one more chip, just one more, we get our creature powers back.

- And if we do, I'll have a Hamster power disc ready so it will be easier to find the rest.

(digital whirring) - Yeah, but that's a big if.

Look, the sun's going down.

I'm starting to think we were really lucky to find two.

(yelling) - There you are, I was looking all over for you.

Jimmy said you needed help.

- Oh, we sure do.

- Hop on.

This is my family's field, I'm Leoni.

- Hi Leoni.

We're looking for MicroXT Power Chips for our creature power suits.

- Do they look like this?

- [Chris And Aviva] The chip!

- Yes, thank you, thank you!

- We now have three chips, enough to activate one of the suits!

- Oh yeah!

- Way to go!

- Aviva, I'll need to get this one to you.

- Not a problem, teleporting now.

- Thanks.

(electronic zapping) - [Jimmy] Teleportation complete!

- Okay Jimmy, keep it safe.

I'll be right there to install them all.

- And we'll keep searching for more.

- [Both] To the Tortuga!

(exciting guitar music) - Okay, so which way is out of this burrow?

- I don't know, let's keep following.

- Ooh, more rooms.

(sniffs) Oh this is the bathroom, pee-yew!

- Hmm, gotta give 'em credit for good burrow organization and excellent hygiene.

Ugh.

- (gasping) Moving on.

- Ah!

(laughs) - Where's she going now?

- Ah, the bedroom.

Looks comfy.

- Sure does.

Hey, no time for grooming your fur.

You gotta show us the way out of here.

(laughs) I guess we're on our own.

Come on, let's go this way.

(exciting guitar music) - Okay, the chips are installed and the hamster power disc is ready for action!

- [Chris] Wow, nice work Aviva.

Hey, let's test it, Cheeks.

Insert creature power disc, touch hamster, and activate European hamster power!

(electronic zapping) (groans) - [Aviva] (giggles) You're hamster sized!

- Awesome, time to find the other chips for Martin's suit.

To the MicroXT Power Chip rescue!

Oof, ouch, whoa!

Hamster's eyesight is not very good.

- [Jimmy Z] They have bad eyesight?

Well that's a problem because it's nighttime.

It's dark!

How will hamster powers help us now?

(ringing) Tortuga HQ here.

- [Aidan] Hey Jimmy, don't worry about nighttime.

Hamsters like nighttime, they're nocturnal.

- [Nolan] Yeah, it's still daytime here where we live and our hamster is taking a nap, see?

- [Aidan] But at night, she's a lot more awake.

- [Nolan] Sometimes she's a little loud while we sleep, but we don't mind.

- Nocturnal!

Okay, thanks, that's a relief.

But wait, their eyesight isn't good.

- [Chris] True, but boy can we smell and hear.

Great senses for searching into the night.

- Chris, I polished the MicroXT Power Chips with this.

It has their scent.

- (sniffing) Oh yeah, I got it, got the smell.

Time to get out and search!

(exciting guitar music) - [Leoni] Try heading west, nobody has searched there yet.

My family leaves part of the land there completely wild just so the wild hamsters have more places to live after the harvest.

- I'm on it, I'll be back with those chips.

Oof, ooh, got to get used to this hamster vision.

(sniffs) To the MicroXT Power Chip rescue!

- [Aviva And Leoni] Good luck!

- Cool, these burrows sometimes have a secret exit too.

That's handy.

Might as well when you're an expert digger like that.

Hey, and nice technique pal.

- (gasps) Martin, look!

- Uh-oh, is he looking at us?

- I think he's looking at you, 'cause I'm out of here.

- Okay, well the hamster predators are out.

Foxes, owls, and polecats.

It just got a little more dangerous out here.

- Uh-huh, especially if you're in a hamster power suit.

- [Both] Chris!

- (sniffing) Oh yeah, I feel so awake!

Follow the nose!

(sniffing) Wait.

Ah-ha, a chip!

These hamster search and co llect powers work really well.

Woo hoo, only two more to go!

Oof!

(groans) Hey, I found that!

So it was on your territory, but it's mine!

(yelling) Oh, you hamsters are so territorial!

Uh-oh, whoa!

(water splashing) Uh-oh, can hamsters swim?

- [Aviva] So far Cheeks has been a huge help finding my chips.

- I know, he just might find another one before-- [both] (gasping) - [Aviva] Watch out Cheeks!

No, we gotta save Cheeks!

- Come on!

- [Aviva] Cheeks, we're coming!

(grunting) - Swimming is not a great hamster power.

Of course!

Hamsters use their cheek pouches to swim too.

Ah, they don't love to swim, but when they have to, their cheeks are like inflatable floaties.

Made it.

Oh no!

[Chris] Cheeks, buddy!

Wild Kratts team come in.

I just saw Cheeks.

A fox has him.

- [Aviva] We know and we're on it.

Leoni knows where the fox den is, but you've got to find those last two chips.

- [Chris] Okay, I'll keep looking, just save Cheeks.

You gotta save him!

- We're on it bro.

- [Both] Stop!

- [Aviva] Glad you made it guys!

- [Martin] All right, now let's get to that fox den.

(sneaky music) (Cheeks hissing) - [All] Oh no!

- [Martin] She brought Cheeks to the den so her kits could practice hunting.

- We need to rescue him fast.

- Well that's going to be much harder now, they're taking him inside their den.

- If only I could dig like a hamster.

- (sniffing) Ah, is that you my little chippy?

Ha, one more!

(sniffing) Woo hoo, that's all of the chips!

Now back to the Tortuga.

[Chris] Jimmy!

I found them, the last three chips!

- [All] Yay!

- (laughs) Yahoo!

- [Chris] Let's teleport them to the gang, fast!

- Ready to teleport.

- [Chris] Don't forget this one!

- [Jimmy] And zap it.

(electronic zapping) - One!

- Two!

- Three!

- Let's get that suit working and save Cheeks!

(dramatic music) - Ah, another hamster!

(laughs) - [Girls] Ugh!

- Well, they are excellent diggers.

(laughing) [Martin] Activate European hamster power!

(electronic zapping) To the hamster rescue, digging power!

- [Both] Hurry Martin!

(grunting) - I'm coming Cheeks!

- [Aidan] Hey Chris, we know another hamster behavior that might help.

- [Chris] What is it?

- [Nolan] We never told you, our hamster has babies!

And every now and then, she wants to move them to a new nest.

- [Aidan] And she uses her cheek pouches to do it.

- [Jimmy] That's freaky.

- [Chris] It's amazing!

Those cheek pouches can carry baby hamsters too?

We gotta tell Martin.

(dramatic music) (Cheeks hissing) - [Martin] Sorry kits, playtime's over.

We owe our friend a favor.

Don't worry Cheeks, I'll keep you safe.

(grunting) In my check pouch!

This is weird.

Whoa!

(groaning) Let's get out of here!

- [Chris] Well, that's mission accomplished.

We found all the microchips for the power suits, thanks to our little buddy, Cheeks the hamster.

- And some help from a few really smart Wild Kratts Kids.

- We sure learned a lot about hamsters too.

- And even got a really cool new hamster creature power suit out of the deal.

- Hey Martin, those cheek pouches look full.

- Oh, these cheek pouches are awesome!

I can keep all of my adventure gear in one place, so I don't lose it.

(laughs) Whoa!

(laughing) - [Jimmy] Guess what?

Now something else is lost.

- You're kidding, what?

- My candy bar.

I was saving it for a post-adventure treat, but now I can't find it anywhere.

- I didn't see it, Jimmy.

- Me neither.

- Mmm.

- You don't know where it could be, do you Martin?

(laughs) [Aviva] Found it.

- Uh-huh.

- Oh, how'd that get in my cheek pouch?

(laughs) (laughing) - That's cheek power!

(laughs) - [Chris] These Wild Kratts kids just got a new pet hamster.

Okay guys, which cage do you wanna use?

- [Kids] This one.

- [Chris] That one?

- [Martin] Me too!

- [Chris] Okay.

- [Martin] Look at all the blue on that one, yeah!

- [Chris] Yeah, and that's the perfect cage because it's a lot like the natural homes of a hamster.

See, it's got the tubes that are just like the tunnels that they live in.

- [Martin] And they've got the chambers.

Look, this is a chamber that the hamster can take a nap in.

- [Boy] Is that the potty spot?

- [Chris] It could be because hamsters have a potty spot too, a latrine, so every little chamber in a hamster's burrow is for something different.

Okay, so let's see how she likes her new home.

- [Martin] She's jumping right in!

- [Chris] Yeah.

(laughs) - [Martin] Look at how she explores using her nose to sniff and smell everything.

- [Chris] Oh, she's gonna check ou t the tunnel, look!

That's the exercise wheel she's going in right now.

- [Martin] Hamsters are very active, so they have to get exercise.

That's why it's really important to have an exercise wheel in a hamster's habitat.

- [Chris] What do you guys like to do after you exercise?

- Drink water.

- Yeah, so it's really important that your hamster always has fresh water to drink.

That we can have a water bottle.

- [Chris] Oh, check it out!

She's using her cheek pouch power.

See those bulges?

She's not eating the food now, she's going to carry it to her storage chamber.

- [Boy] What're those for?

- [Martin] Oh, those are chew toys.

See?

They're made out of wood.

Hamster's teeth always keep growing, they never stop, so they have to chew on things to wear their teeth down.

You want to put 'em in?

- [Boy] Mm-hmm.

- [Martin] Great!

If you see your hamster sleeping during the day, remember, because she's nocturnal, she might've been up all night, so you might want to just let her sleep, wait for her to wake up, and then play with her.

- [Chris] But when you do handle a hamster, you have to treat her really gently.

You wanna try?

- [Martin] And remember, the most important thing is to really learn about your pet, get to know your pet.

- That way you can give your new pal the best possible home.
