Science Trek is a place where parents, kids, and educators can watch short, educational videos on a variety of science topics. Every Monday Science Trek releases a new video that introduces children to math, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career potentials in a fun, informative way.(SCIENCE TREK MUSIC) JOAN CARTAN-HANSEN, HOST: Most of us think of forests as a place for nature, for recreation, but for some forests are their workplace.
There are biologists who study the plants and animals that live in the forests.
Water scientists who study the rivers and streams that support forests.
There are forest rangers who protect trees and work with local communities in conservation efforts.
There are forest engineers who oversee projects to harvest timber.
And it takes a lot of different jobs and skills to cut and process trees.
That timber that gets turned into things like wood to build homes and to make paper products.
There are more than 86 thousand people working in the logging industry in the United States alone.
And there are more than ten thousand professional fire fighters who put out wildfires across the country.
They also work on preventing fires with prescribed burns and with reforestation efforts.
And this list doesn't include all the other forest related and support occupations.
So, if you want to work in the forests, there's probably a job for you.
